Terre Haute is a sports and outdoor recreation hub. Notable venues include the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course, Griffin Bike Park, Terre Haute Quarter Midget Association Hulman Track, and Terre Haute Action Track. The Wabash Valley offers the Springhill Soccer Complex, Strive 365, and the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area. The area also features six golf courses, two pickleball courts, two disc golf courses, and facilities at Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for hosting various tournaments.

Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course

This 240-acre course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, east of Terre Haute, is one of the few purpose-built and spectator-friendly cross country courses globally. Its unique design features varied terrain and slopes, allowing spectators to view the entire course from the inside grid and hilltop. The course includes a press box, seating, parking, restrooms, and concessions, hosting events like the NCAA Championships, IHSAA State Finals, and Nike Cross Country Regionals.

Griffin Bike park

Griffin Bike Park is a premier venue for biking tournaments and events. Spanning 300 acres, this park was designed by Hilride Progression Development Group to cater to riders of all ages and skill levels. The park has a diverse range of trails and features, including cross-country courses, downhill runs, and technical areas. Griffin Bike Park regularly hosts national and regional biking competitions, drawing participants and spectators from across the country. The venue provides ample parking, restrooms, and spectator areas, making it an ideal location for large-scale biking events.

Vigo County youth soccer association

One of the Midwest's largest soccer complexes, VCYSA spans 50+ acres with 23 fields of varying sizes, supporting rotation to prevent wear. It accommodates over 80 recreational and 20 travel teams for ages 4-19 and hosts the Midwest Soccer Classic. The complex offers concessions, parking, and restrooms for spectators.

Collegiate Sports and recreation facilities

Indiana State University features comprehensive sports facilities, including the Hulman Center with basketball courts, a full track, weight-lifting stations, and racquetball courts. The campus also boasts a football field, a track, and a baseball field. ISU is home to Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games and often hosts championship sporting events.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has multiple basketball courts, collegiate swimming pool, indoor and outdoor track and a multi-use room with high ceilings for dance, cheer and wrestling. Hulbert Arena, with its unique parquet floor, hosts basketball and volleyball programs and has hosted the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Final Four.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College offers a sports center with two basketball/volleyball courts and softball and soccer fields. The campus also has indoor and outdoor equine arenas, hosting regional meetings throughout the year. The large wooded, rural campus has walking trails and is often host to walks and fun-runs. It annually serves as the launching point for the Ride Across Indiana cycling event.
